ghost story yes, bvearing in mind tyhat ghosts are real

The story is set in America during the initial invasion of white settlers. This film aptly captures the vastness of the uninhabited territory and the psychological effects of alienation on the immigrants. Silent Tongue offers a powerful comparison between the traditional culture of the indiginous population and the imported vestiges of English society.
Distraught father(the late Richard Harris)attempts to trade horses for the purchase of the second daughter of the drunk proprietor(the late Alan bates) of a travelling circus after the first daughter has died in childbirth. The loss of the first daughter, whom Harris purchased for the comfort and stability of his son, has left the boy in a state of obsessive neurosis. He clings to the corpse of the dead woman and defends his continued ownership of it against apparently imaginary assailants. As the plot unfolds we learn that the two sisters were born of a forced union beween Bates and a woman whose tongue had been cut out by her own people in punishment.The film offers a harsh and colourful insight into both cultures as old family scores are settled beween the past and the present, the living an the dead, and justice is finally served.The visual effects, scenery and dramatic story telling rival the best of classic japanese horror films and you dont have to cope with subtitles.
