An ideal gift for the armchair traveller and historian
This is an early member of the new series of 'Ladybird Expert' booklets which have adopted the popular style of single pages of text with facing full page illustrations, familiar from the numerous original later matt Wills & Hepworth Ladybird books for children. Each title is written by an established authority in their field and features newly commissioned original artwork rather than photography. The author of Timbuktu is Director of the Smithsonian Museum of African Art, and he covers the history of this African crossroads from the eleventh century to the present day.

The Middleton Press monographs about individual British railway lines are an excellent series and will eventually form a countrywide gazetteer in innumerable volumes. The northern England and southern Scotland volumes are nearly all by Darsley and this is one of his best. Highly recommended especially at eBay competitive price 👍

Beautifully printed limited collector's item
Delightful large format children's picture book (including a fun quiz) by a talented young illustrator who adopts a complicated screen-printing technique to achieve really distinctive images on every page. She should go far. Highly recommended.
