A Historical overview of early encounters
There's a lot of historical details such as dates and names that are expressed in this book. This book compared seperate locations and described their similarities and differences in such an interesting way. I learned more about the past history besides the European outlook that gave me a different perspective and understanding on the basis of other cultures and religions on other parts of the world. It is a good book, simply filled with great information!

An excellent ethnographical study on Mexican youth
The writing is smooth, easy and thought provoking. Our class had some great discussions based on what we read. The definitions and explainations of authentic and aesthetic caring in school/teachers are well put. I really enjoyed the fact that there were examples of dialects of students based on the interviews Angela Valenzuela had. I also liked the way she analyzed these youths and formulated her view on U.S. Mexican Youths. I had to read this book for a Chicano Studies class and it has been very beneficial to read to understand a better view of the lives of Mexicans in Seguin high school.
