Brighter, but barely. Better to get a new torch.
3 of 3 found this helpful It is marginally brighter than the old globe, but no where near as good as your standard/cheap new LED hand torch. Also having the button on the base now makes it more likely to accidentally turn it on. It also loses some of its durability with the new globe & switch. A cheap and simple upgrade for your old Maglite, but hardly revolutionary. I would put my money toward a name brand LED torch.
