Fox Edge, the alternative to Fox Knives
A quick review on the Fox Edge "The Claw" karambit with tanto blade.
Out of the box:
5" while closed
7 1/4" full length when opened
2.5" stone wash finished 8Cr13MoV stainless blade cutting area. The blade itself is just a fraction longer
Black G10 scales
Extended tang
Pocket clip and finger ring both have the same stone wash finish as the blade.
There is a wave hook and a ball bearing pivot for lightning fast deployment the moment it is drawn from pocket. Meaning that it is faster than a switchblade or assisted opening knife. Literally milliseconds to deploy.
There is a flipper on the other side of the blade, to be used as an "assisted opening" knife if holding it standard and not karambit style.
The nitty gritty:
The pocket clip is reversible to either side, depending up whether you prefer using as a karambit or standard.
The liner lock locks into place unexpectedly tightly at roughly 45% - 55% inset spot on the blade.
There is very light blade play and wiggle, but only ever so minimal, which is expected and characteristic of ball bearing mechanisms. Tightening the pivot with a hex wrench will eliminate this, and ensure 100% solid lock up.
Two finger grooves on the spine, one just behind the wave hook for better handling when holding standard style and drawing the blade across what is being cut; and one in front of the wave hook directly on the spine of the blade for more precise cutting.
All in all, a pretty impressive knife for less than $40. Equally great for use as edc utility knife, or for self defense.
This is the budget answer to Italian made Fox Knives Karambits, specifically "The Dart", which sells for well over $200
Not really a functionality thing, but I really love the little spider etched into the base of the blade.
