Modern Cool
I was looking for a unique chess set for my teenage sons' b-day. After looking at numerous sets (including the Harry Potter set, which is pretty awesome), I came across the Umbra Buddy Chess Set. I loved the modern look of the pieces and game board, but hoped it was as nice as it appeared in the pics. I was not disappointed. The pieces have a beautiful finish and they have a nice weight to them, with felt bottoms that allow them to glide across the board. The wood box also has a nice weight and finish, and when you remove the playing board, the interior has a dense foam with laser cutouts for each piece. The pieces fit snuggly in the box for storage, but look super cool sitting out on the board for display. Finally, the board itself is also solid and heavy, with a mirrored playing surface and a velvet-like fabric on the back side. My son was thrilled when he opened it, and has loved playing with it since. This is a pricer set, but something he'll have for a lifetime. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for something with a more contemporary flair, as well as being a great piece of art for a room.
