Good period info, some text hard to see
A good compilation of period materials. My main complaint is that the author's sections are printed in very faint type. Otherwise, a nice read.

A true story of one black Army unit at the start of World War 1
This movie is about an historical event. Although all people involved in the event are no longer here, and there were few interviews of them in the day, the screen writing was well done and the acting was superb. Black U.S. soldiers and sailors were often treated terribly during both World Wars, and their stories need to be told and remembered. This was one of them.

History into fantasy doesn't quite mix
I had not seen the movie before purchasing the Blu-ray. I knew Tarantino films have lots of violence, but this one wasn’t too over the top. The acting and special effects were good. My main complaint is that it is historical fiction that turned into complete fantasy storytelling with no relation to history. I personally think you need to either stick to historical fiction or fantasy storytelling, don’t mix the two because you lose all empathy for the characters by the end.
