Singer Quantum Stylist 9985 Computerized Portable Sewing Machine 960 Stitches

Okay for now
I bought this sewing machine years ago. The reviews were very mixed. What I learned is it is cheap for all the functions it has at a price. The letters it sews are not worth using. They are not embroidered. It looks like a beginner tried to free hand it. It has lots of stitches. A bunch are the reverse of another so it shows about 1/2 of what it says it can do. It rips thread. Inside, there is a sharp piece that cuts at the thread slowly. It isn't tension. If you have this issue and you can take apart a machine and put it together, you can grind the piece down so it won't rip thread anymore. The bobbin threader doesn't have a cutter. I was so used to my Brother auto threading for me and cutting the bobbin thread that I feel it missing every time. It has a threader and a cutter at the needle. They aren't the same. The cutter isn't sharp so the thread is frayed and the threader isn't easy to remember nor is it just drop and go like my old machine. Tension varies while sewing. Do not use spools on top of the machine. Just use the small ones that will fit in the machine with the spool holder down or the tension will mess up worse. Overall, it works and it does a lot despite these issues. It handles a decent load too. I wouldn't buy it again and I really want to replace it with something less temperamental but for now, it will do and I can live with it. Factory service isn't worth mentioning. Might as well fix it on your own.
