Ram made from Samsung

I now have 2 ea. 512mb Ram made by Samsung. Wanted to increase to 2 ea. 1gb Ram. I first bought odd brand name and it didn't work. So I was told to get the original brand. I order 2 ea. 1gb made by Samsung. Still didn't work. Made some research and I guess 2gb will work because of the bios chip.
