One in a series, which leaves a lot of loose ends to sell you the next book.
I think Mr. Poyer is a very good adventure story writer. This is a book following the navy career of the character Dan Lenson. It includes many unexplained references to people and events from earlier books in the series. I recommend that if you are considering this book and have not read all the earlier ones in the series, to start with them and read them in order. By the time you get to this book, you'll be able to pick it up much cheaper than its current selling price. If you have read all the earlier books, be prepared to be left hanging (again) at the end of this one. I do not find the later books to be as well written as the earlier ones, which is a problem not unique to Mr. Poyer among writers in this genre. An exception might be P.T. Deutermann, but he is not a serial writer like Mr. Poyer.

Works very well but gets very hot.
I use this device to split the signal from a cable box to send it to two televisions. Both TVs are in the same room about 25 feet apart. I was lucky to be able to plan ahead and run HDMI cable through the attic and stud walls before the drywall was installed. The pictures on both TVs are great. The only negative comment is that the unit gets extremely hot. It has no on/off power switch, so it is always on. You could unplug it, or use a switched outlet for the power supply, though. Once I became aware of how hot the unit was, I elected to leave it out and hung it behind the cable box, dangling so that it did not touch any surfaces that might burn, and to allow room air to circulate around all of its metal surfaces for maximum heat removal. I would not close this unit in a cabinet with no air circulation.
