Perhaps the Most Tone Control Available

No matter how much you spend or what brands you try, you will be hard-pressed to find any amplifier with more tone control than a Vox, and this particular model gives you bedroom friendly volume up to decently loud. And, if you want some seriously overdriven distortion, just add a little boost to your signal and turn your preamp up and your master volume down. My personal favorite feature is the separate normal and top-boost channels that can be accessed separately via an ABY footswitch. You can mix the two, or set one to clean and the other to overdrive. A little imagination and you can do a lot with this little amp! The external speaker jacks let you add a cabinet, or go totally external to two if you want...another great option. Most people are perfectly happy with the stock Celestion, though, because it is a great speaker in its own right, and better than most amps come with. The best judge is your own two ears. Sit down and plug into one and turn a few knobs and see what happens. Find an amp that costs twice as much. Is it any better? I doubt it.

A Simple Amp with Gorgeous Tone and Drive

I bought the 2061 because I own the rare PA 20 speakers from the late 1960s and wanted to know what the real rig sounded like back in the day. I'd read the reviews of the 2061 and knew I had nothing to lose...they all said "what a great amp...incredible plexi sound". That's all true, but a couple things I hadn't read too often from the reviews was the incredible range of tone possibilities by bridging the channels, (or just use stereo output of one of your effects, and use the channels' tone and volume controls separately). And the other thing you should try, if you buy, is to plug this beauty of an amp into several types of cabinets. You'll be amazed at what a difference the cabinet makes to the attack and sustain and harmonic richness. I love the amp so much I bought a second one. Decide for yourself if 20 watts is the amount of power you need...remember, it's 20 Marshall watts! If you want a hand-built vintage amp, right out of the box, this is it!
