US silver dollars minted before 1965 are an investment and collectable.
4 of 4 found this helpful US silver dollars are beautiful and fun coins to collect and to have as a silver investment. "Silver" dollars and "silver" coins are 90% silver if minted before 1965. After 1965 US "silver" coins are 40% silver. Silver dollars made prior to 1965 have .777% of a troy ounce of silver. The Morgan and Peace dollars are the easiest US coins to recognize.
As of Sept 8, 2014, silver has a spot market value of $19 per troy ounce. Thus it is easy to determine their silver value.
The value of the rarest Morgans, as collector items, can be over $1,000, depending on date, mint mark, and condition.
