Not worth the price

a much forgotten group of couragious American soldiers

For me the journey began with a WW1 post card. The picture was taken by a Royal Engineer, of Montfaucon, France. In the picture was a black man walking toward the photographer. After some research, the man in the card had to be a "Hellfighter from Harlem", the 369th divison. The book by Bill Harris brought the reader into early 20th century america. The war raged in Europe and the American's were soon to be in the fray. Due to the "JIM CROW" laws, the volunteers from Harlem, were to fight with the war weary French forces. The 369th fought so well they were awarded the French Medal of Honor. unfortunately the group was completely ignored by the US Government. They thought they were fighting for their own freedom; but soon knew that nothing changed. The stories are of a forgotten group of couragious soldiers, filling a void in WW1 history. I found the writing to be refreshing and informative. I thank Bill Harris for his research and fortitude in telling of a difficult time in history Is it any different now, read this book and draw your own conclusion.
