Best ever book for kids on living off the land. Adventure is set in New York state.
Great plot supported by the author's extensive knowledge of nature. Teen aged boy runs away to an abandoned family farm and lives off the land with the aid of a hawk he trains.

A classic childrens' adventure story of living with and off the land.
For nature lovers who want to introduce children to nature by an adventure story, this book is the best. A teen goes back to live on his ancestor's land near the Catskill's in New York. He fashions everything he needs- food, clothing,and shelter from his environment and learns from the animals. He acquires a falcon, Frightful, who is featured in following books.
I buy books by this author to leave in the free library at our Nature Center. Some of the stories may seem unlikely by today's culture, but were quite believable when written.
