They Work!
The permanent match item works as intended. Before you use it you must scrape clean the flint of the paint coating. There is a learning curve to operation, you should practice a few times prior to the emergency when you really need it. For me, I hold the container on hard surface at 45 degree angle and start with striker from top supported by index finger and apply pressure as I strike down. Usually once the technique is mastered, it lights every time. The flame is stronger than normal match. Really, for best results tender should be prepared ahead of time. Not so sure this is wind proof, bust this device really works well. I do not think it is heavy duty enough for everyday use, but perfect for emergencies. Probably best fuel is lighter fluid or coleman fuel. These will not degrade quickly and can basically be forgotten for a few years, no so with gasoline and kerosine is harder to light.

If you want a very good external drive that does it all, buy the Samsung SE506AB or SE506BB. They were not Cnet editors choice by accident. *******

Very Bright Light
I have used various forms of these baseball cap over the years. This version is very good. Once on, they put out enough light to walk in total darkness. It is also versatile in that the light is hands free.From my experience they do seem to hold up well. The batteries last so long you will probably loose the baseball cap prior to replacing them. The only fault I see is that the LEDs are so bright, they will project glare into your eyes. I solved this problem by putting a small piece of electrical tape just so that the light is prevented from glaring back into your eyes. Certainly epoxy could be carefully placed to achieve the same result.
