TECH 21 FLY RIG is a Keeper!

I go to a lot of open Jams and have been downsizing my rig to make it more portable. I have a great (Huge) pedal board that I love, but it's just one more thing to lug around, set up and tear down. I saw the Fly Rig and thought it could be the answer. I'm pleased to report that my Fly Rig now takes the place of my pedal board whenever I play out. With Reverb, Delay, Chorus, Drive, Plexi-Drive and Boost, this puppy gives me all the sounds I need. It's small. light weight and portable, so no complaints what-so-ever. I've spent a fortune on various pedals over the years. I have at least 30 and they are all sitting idle while my Fly Rig does the job. I would say this is the best money I have spent on musical equipment in a long time, I guess if there is one complaint, it is that the dials are really tiny. However, the Rig comes equipped with four rubber washer thingies that wrap around the knobs and make them much easier to work. I went on the Tech 21 web site and saw that I could order 10 additional rubber thingies for $7 bucks, so I immediately bought them. They arrived in a few days and are now mounted on my Rig, so no problem at all now manipulating the knobs. I highly recommend the Fly Rig to guitarists at any level, from beginner to pro. Buy this product NOW. You need it. You will love it.

Carvin SX300 Amp Pros & Cons

Overall, I like this amp a lot. Number one is the sound/tone. It really does sound as good as a tube amp, at least to my ears. I like the metal grille and also like the reasonably light weight. Fit and finish are spot on as well. The three channels offer clean as well as two modes of overdrive. There are a couple of minor negatives. First is the Bright Switches on each channel. Carvin chose to use mini-push button switches. The problem is that I can't tell when the switches are engaged or not. I have to push the switch, strum a couple of times and push the switch again, listening for the difference. These switches were a horrible choice. Old Fender amps got it right 50 years ago by using sliders. Slide it up for ON and down for OFF. How much simpler could it be? The other negative is the various effects phase, echo, etc. I think most guitar players prefer to buy separate effects pedals to get exactly the type they want. Adding the effects into the amp seems like a waste to me, but they can easily be switched off, so no real problem. Just wasted space on the control panel. However, aside from those two minor complaints, this is a very good amp. Definitely a keeper. I have already used it for a couple of gigs and would recommend it.

Best Guitar Stand Ever

I've been playing guitar for 40+ years. Have dropped a few guitars and seen a few fall over with old style guitar stands. It's never a good outcome. The Starfish stand is different in that the guitar hangs from the headstock and the total weight is spread over five well spaced legs. The result is well protected guitar in a stand that is almost impossible to knock over. This design is nothing less than Genius. If you play guitar and you care about your instrument, do yourself a favor and buy this stand. You won't regret it. If you're like me, you will eventually buy a second and a third Starfish stand. They are that good. In my opinion, this is the best stand on the market, at any price.

Gator Amp Stand

I have to agree with some of the previous reviews. This product is well made and looks like it will last forever. The only problem is with the one obvious design flaw. The top rear support rail is only 19" long, which is way too short for some amps. If you have an open-back combo amp, the rail will sit inside the side walls of the amp and potentially push against tubes. That makes it unusable. There is a simple modification to fix this. Just add a piece of wood or a steel tube to lengthen the rail. I knew when I ordered the stand that I would need to do this, so I wasn't upset when I received it. I would still recommend this product, but just be aware that depending on the design of your amp, you may need to modify the stand. A little disappointed in Gator. Their products are usually very well thought out. Still, it's a usable product, after you make the mod.

Snarling Dogs Picks are Great

I am constantly plagued by pick dropsyitis. I don't know if it is caused by getting older or what, but the damn things spend more time on the floor than between my fingers. I have experimented with a wide variety of enhanced grip type picks. Found a few that work for me, but they are somewhat pricey. The Snarling Dogs picks have a cat-tongue surface that works especially well, and they are not extremely expensive, so that is a bonus. Plus, they come delivered in a handy dandy little tin box that is quite useful. I plan to order more of these picks in the near future.

2X12 Vertical Speaker Cab

I couldn't be happier with this product. Construction is solid as a rock. Tolex covering is perfect. Looks as good or better than any new brand name amp. The steel mesh grill is a perfect fit and provides far more protection than a standard cloth grill. I wish my amps all had similar grills. All mounting screws and speaker wire & connectors were thoughtfully provided. Lastly, the packaging was excellent. My cabinet shipped from California all the way to Indiana and arrived in perfect condition. This is the second cabinet I have purchased from this company and I intend to purchase another in the near future. Thanks for another great product!

Seymour Duncan Everything Axe Pickups

I own 25 or so guitars, outfitted with a wide variety of pickups, from stock to custom, so I have the opportunity to compare the sound of various pickups. My comparisons are not technical in nature. I rely solely on my ear. I have Seymour Duncan pickups on two other guitars and they have always sounded great, so when I decided to change out the pups in one of my Strats, I opted to go with SD's. I stumbled across the Everything Axe set on ebay & thought I couldn't go wrong with this set up. I was right. Installation was fairly easy, although I had to enlist my wife to do the soldering because I'm no good at it. Anyway, after the installation, I immediately plugged her in (the guitar, not my wife) and I was not disappointed in the least. These pups sound terrific and switching around to different combinations provides a wide variety of tones and flavors. In short, I like 'em and they are staying in place in this guitar. As I said earlier, in my experience, you just can't go wrong with Seymour Duncan pups. My only complaint is the price, but that's because I am a cheap skate. The Everything Axe set is worth the price. Oh, one last comment. Appearance is also important to me. These are beautiful little pups. I went with the cream color and mounted them on a black pick guard on a butterscotch colored Strat with gold hardware. The finished product looks like a million bucks. Size-wise, the SD pups are exactly the same size as stock Strat sc pups, so no mods to the pick guard are necessary. Overall, I couldn't be happier with this product.
