Check Out the Versatile Jordan 4 Tech White Sneaker

Introducing the Subtle Tech White Colorway

The shoe's design starts with the tumbled white leather upper. On the side panels, the shoe uses white mesh. The collar and overlays use the same white color. Speckled cement gray appears on the plastic eyelet holders. The speckled gray reappears on the midsole, which uses a visible Nike Air unit. A white outsole incorporates cement gray at the toe.

The design introduces pops of color on the shoe's logos. A red Jumpman logo appears on the white leather tongue. The red Jumpman also reappears on the outsole. On the back of the heel, the shoe features a silver Jumpman logo. The Wings logo on the side of the shoe uses the same white as the rest of the shoe.

The Nike Air Jordan 4 Sneaker's History

In November 1988, an issue of Sports Illustrated hinted at a new Jordan sneaker, the Air Jordan 4. The new shoe finally debuted during the NBA All-Star Game in February 1989. Michael Jordan stepped onto the basketball court wearing the Jordan 4 Black Cement. Later that year, Nike released the Air Jordan 4 worldwide. This was the first Air Jordan available to sneaker fans outside the U.S.

The Air Jordan 3 was a tough act to follow for shoe designer Tinker Hatfield. For the Jordan 4, Tinker Hatfield used some of the same elements as the Jordan 3, like the visible Air unit. Jordan 4 sneakers featured a mid-height silhouette.

Hatfield's design for the AJ4 focused on performance features. These Air Jordans used a synthetic leather called Durabuck. Durabuck offered a lightweight, durable alternative to the leather used in previous Jordans. The material also was more cost-effective and animal friendly.

Tinker Hatfield's Air Jordan 4 added other unique features. The AJ4 featured molded mesh on the side panels that improved the sneaker's breathability. Plastic wings held the laces at the top and bottom of the lacing structure. The wings featured a grid pattern that allowed for 18 possible lacing options.

The Air Jordan 4 on the Big Screen

Director Spike Lee served as Nike's pitchman for Air Jordans in the late 1980s into the early 1990s. Lee appeared in commercials promoting the Air Jordan 3, 4, 5, and 6 sneakers. Playing his character Mars Blackmon, Lee appeared in commercials, print ads, and posters with Michael Jordan. The Air Jordan 4 made its big-screen debut in Spike Lee's 1989 film "Do the Right Thing."
