This coffee maker is an interesting mix of innovative design, decent usability, easy maintenance, and passable coffee. Its most distinctive feature is that the filter basket fits inside the carafe opening, rather than on top. For those having trouble with this concept, imagine a more typical design with a short carafe and a filter basket that attaches on top. Then just extend the glass up and around the basket. The carafe's capacity and the machine's height haven't changed. Drips and leaks are less likely (although they can still happen for other reasons) and the enclosed grounds stay warmer during brewing. The large handle is attached by a single metal band around the top, which should support the carafe with its maximum coffee capacity (about half full), but I'm nervous about filling it completely when rinsing or washing it, because the handle has a lot of leverage and the glass is thin. The reservoir and the carafe are both marked with 5 cups in 1-cup increments, but that's little help for people to whom a cup is not 4.6 oz. but 8 oz., and a decent mug of coffee is 10 oz. or more. UPDATE: I recently took the EC-DAC50 out of summer storage, and was surprised to find that my coffee was significantly hotter than I remember. I had complained about the brewing temperature, but based on the taste, it's working great now. In spite of my quibbles about the handle and the cup markings, this machine produces a very good mug of coffee, and the price isn't too much to pay for that quality. Upgraded to four stars.Read full review

This is a replacement coffeemaker for the Zo we've had for years. It still works, but looks a bit worn. These make great coffee. They are small, easy to maintain, and reliable. Plus, you can actually get replacement parts if you need them (like when you break the glass carafe.)

Item came in without any noticeable dents or scratches and not any sign of prior usage. One disappointing factor was that the measuring spoon and the owner's manual was missing.

I almost didn’t buy this because the reviews are all over the place but it’s a well designed, sturdy little coffee maker that makes incredible coffee because of the brewing process. It’s attractive on the counter and the coffee is hot and delicious. It has no bells and whistles but is perfect for that one or two cup in the morning fix. Highly recommend.
