If you have never shot with a Contarex you are missing one of the true pleasures associated with a quality product. Expense was no obstacle when these cameras were built. The quality of the external and internal parts stand as a testament to the high standards the Zeiss Ikon people maintained. Advance the film and the smooth quiet mechanism sets you up for your next photo. Peer through the view finder and be amazed that the crystal clear image has actually passed through at least six pieces of Zeiss glass before reaching your eye. Push the shutter and marvel at how quietly the mirror is raised, the two shutter curtains are released and the mirror is returned "home" for your next shot. Do these cameras require a Specialist work on them? Does a Ferrari, Lamborghini, or Mercedes require a Specialist? Just the fact that so many Contarex are still in use today and have survived the last 50 years looking great and working up to their standard helps you understand why the well heeled of society had to have a Contarex back in the day. Now you can. Read full review

I have got my first Contarex camera (a Cyclope) in 1968, when I was a student of architecture in the University of Florence. In many years of use of the Conterex system (I have many different bodies and lenses) I have experimented the absolute quality of the product of the dream Zeiss: old technology, at moment, but a fantastic system out of time, for ever. By the way, I'm using, with satisfaction, my lenses on a E Olympus camera: new life but... only telelenses for the dimension of 3/4 standard(2x). But no matter for wide angle: I've my Curtagon PC, and two Distagon 25 and 18 mm, the Biogon 21, and my fantastic Hologon. A little problem, but an other fine experience: film, scanner and Photoshop. It is interesting to be an old man: many years, a lot of experiences! Long life to Contarex!Read full review
The Zeiss Ikon Contarex Bulls eye film camera is a niche market camera for collectors of iconic German photography equipment. Because of their age and complexity obtaining a fully working sample is very difficult. If you intend on using the camera it will most likely need work. Once working properly the camera is a joy to use and combined with its 50mm f2.0 lens renders wonderful images along with admiration from everyone. There is simply nothing else like it and I doubt there ever will be again.
