Yamaha 683 Receiver Fantastic
My old receiver was 15 years old, before the invention of bluetooth, and HDMI. Let me tell you this Yamaha is the best receiver and I can't say enough about it. Easy to set up even though the owners manual is 125 pages. You simply plug an HDMI cable to the back and the other end to your television and the set-up program walks you through the steps required. I do not have a 7 channel speaker system yet. But my six speaker system works just fine with perfectly balanced sound. Totally satisfied. Outstanding product. Works great right out of the box. The box contains an abdicated users manual for basic setup, and a cd for advanced programming and use. The system can be used as a conventional stereo or as a surround sound unit. It can also be used with 4, 6, or 8 ohm speakers. But it must be programmed for the type of speaker you wish to use. It was programmed as a 6 ohm speaker system out of the box. I used 4 Pyle 8 ohm 2 way speakers and it sounds great.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Much better than online reviews..
I was a little weary about buying because the reviews I've read on this receiver haven't been stellar.. But I bit the bullet and did it and very glad I did. This receiver sounds incredible and much more powerful than the slightly older Yamaha that it's replacing. The MusicCast app works great on my Samsung S8+ smart phone and I can control the receiver much better with that instead of the remote that came with it. Network setup was a breeze. Alerted me that there was a firmware update and it took care of that within 15 minutes.. It sounds wonderful. I'm using no tone controls or parametric EQ. Just the speaker setup with the included microphone settings and I couldn't be happier. I'll probably add a second subwoofer to it to get that extra "wow" factor in for movies. Top Notch AV Receiver!
I'm not the kind of guy that needs 11 speakers and 2 subwoofers to create the perfect theatre experience in my living room, so this 7.2 channel unit is more than enough for my smaller home. I was able to set it up in less than an hour, including the immediate software upgrade that was needed (according to the unit). When I was shopping for a new AV receiver, this one had more bang for my buck, including the phono jack that allows me to binge on my vinyl, as well as plug my flash drives into the front of the unit instead of the back to listen to my digital music.
