I purchased my first Yamaha "stereo" receiver in 1977 . At that time it was the coolest thing I had purchased along with the Phillips 870 turntable to spin the albums. Since I have owned several Yamaha receivers. All have been high end. I purchased this receiver to replace my aging basement unit DSP-3090.Nothing functionally wrong with the 3090, just wanted to upgrade to new technology. I started searching the internet for Yamaha receivers,(is there other manufacturers out there?) Replacing a flagship receiver on a budget I thought would be no easy task, however I pursued. I researched several possible candidates. I found the 2600 to have everything I needed at hopefully the price I could afford.I like the output power of 130W's / channel.I like the Burr Brown DAC's,the HDMI with all of the up-converting, the GUI interface. The sleek exterior design. It's almost as cool as my RX-Z1 housed in the living room.I don't like the remote ..It's confusing.I was disappointed to discover that signals are not output from the front presence speakers and the back surrounds simultaneously.I was disappointed as well to discover no dual sub outputs. Had to y the single output to power the subwoofers.I thought initially the 2600 would be sort of a compromise purchase.Wow was I wrong!! The 2600 is a " Bad to the Bone" receiver. I am blown away by everything about it. It produces amazing sound.I definetly made the right choice. I based my purchase decision on Yamaha's quality reputation and the previous owners taking good care of it.Read full review
This receceiver sounds great and has plenty of power to push my klipsch speakers. The auto sound set up is easy and qwik. It has more features than you could ask for. It also looks great in my entertainment center. I replaced my Sony receiver with this one and I can tell a big differance in sound quality. I am won over by Yamaha sound quality and will purchase another one in the future. If you are considering a Yamaha receiver I would recomend the RX series to anyone.
I have thoroughly enjoyed this purchase. After reading all the reviews, the only models highly rated in this price range were this Yamaha and the Denon. I picked this model because of the far better on screen display and the video upconversion. The sound is about the same. Since getting it I have had no problems. The on screen display is extremely impressive with a large depth of screens to tweak everything, and modern graphics with scrolling, color, picture backgrounds, etc. The unit is typically warm to touch, but the I have never heard fan noise. The only thing I dont like about the Yamaha rx v2600 is that I cant change the name of the inputs. The title of the inputs is prehistoric and includes things like phono. Modern inputs like HTPC (home theater pc), XBOX, or PSII cannot be made. The Denon allows you to change the name of the current input name to whatever you want. This Yamaha allows you only to change the name that appears on the remote control LCD. It is hard for the wife and kids to remember they have to press DTV to watch movies from the HTPC or other nonintuitive exchanges have been made. All in all, it is still the best model out in the under $1k price range.Read full review
I would be lost without the user guide. This receiver is packed with features. It could use more HDMI inputs, but for now it has what I need. The sound is what you would expect from Yamaha, clear and defined. Watching movies at home will never be the same. Also, I like my home stereo to be very heavy, for two reasons. The first reason is, heavy usually means solid construction with massive power. The second reason is, it's harder to steal. This receiver weighs in at just under 50 pounds.
I bought this about a year ago and it is just the best. the sound is incredible. The YPAO automatic acoustic equalizer is an awesome feature that automatically adjusts your speakers and puts them in sync. the video quality is great and the RX-V2600 has plenty of inputs for all of your electronic equipment. This is by far the best receiver i have encountered so far.
