This is the first truly professional soprano saxophone I have ever owned. Considering how good Selmer horns can be I was skeptical about the Yamaha. I knew they were starting to gain a rep as a strong and consistent brand, but I wasn't sure. I made the purchase and I couldn't be happier. The 875Ex Custom has an incredible sound. It can play lightly, but it has some real punch to it. I play all styles of music and it really does well it all genres. Even with the thick reed I have, I can produce a fairly large sound, but for jazz it also works really well. The tone quality is also incredibly clear and can produce the sweetest timbre for those softer tones needed in classical settings. But, I also used it in place of a tenor sax for a jazz ensemble rehearsal one day for various reasons and volume-wise it could really keep up. It was awesome. I recommend this horn to anyone interested in a horn that can play multiple styles while also being consistently in tune. Read full review
