The Yamaha EF2000iS 2,000 watt inverter-generator I proudly purchased brand new on ebay for $700 BIN post typhoon Soudelor that pummeled and devastated Saipan island with no island electricity for little over 70 days, at least in my residential home area. I rated the unit 5-Star in all aspects, quality made/durable, dependable, user-friendly and simplicity easy one-time pull-starting that even my 8 year-old daughter Katelyn could easily one time pull start it! Operating and performing routine maintenance of oil change is quite easy and quick. Though good to change oil on engine when it's warm as easily drains out. Just make sure you have the proper funnel, which could be purchased at most hardware stores, and catch-all container, as that will prevent mess on unit and around area when changing or adding oil. And practically good idea to have any kind of absorbent wipe just in case that you accidently over filled oil, which appropriately unit must be in normal operating standing up position. For those not fun in lifting weights and particularly draining oil, it helps when unit fuel tank is almost empty when draining oil. The typical cons of most portable generators. Otherwise, put unit on secured table and safely tilt it side ways to drain oil into catch all container. The unit did not come with engine hour meter-preventive maintenance logging and reminder, but you could buy it online and DIY very easily, if needed, but I recommended you install one. In the back there are two phillip head screws which you need to remove them, then remove back cover from top, not the bottom. Insert cable into one of the holes on plastic intake exhaust grill, preferably to the far left or second hole facing grill. If necessary remove exhaust grill to work easily, pull and string cable immediately above and along the gas tank, stay on top, continue to string to the spark plug. Remove spark plug wire and wind tightly 4-5 turns neatly and secured cable end with a plastic cable tie wrap, reinstall spark plug wire. Pull other end of cable on inlet exhaust side and insert into slot of hour meter. Then mount hour meter with self-adhesive or screws provided with meter on conveniently save place and easy to read hours. Replace back cover back on and secured. That's it! You are done and ready to test run it. Remember it is an hour and not minute meter so wait at least 30 of running time to see any tachometer reading. The other advantages, it has the Smart Throttle which varies engine speed based accordingly on load - improves fuel economy and reduces noise. I couldn't stress more the importance of those. Note that's the difference between the inverter generator and a generator, in which a generator consumes more fuel for the same capacity and load size. Has fuel peacock switch that allows running carb dry preventing gummed up and foul out problem requiring costly repairs. It's very important you take constant high dB noise level seriously into account as is very annoying, unless you are maybe 50+ feet away and depending on the size, make, etc, not taking into account the power cord length, wire size you would need too, especially on generators. But, with the Yamaha brand inverter generator you will truly appreciate the peace of mind of low dB noise, especially in "eco" throttle setting. Additionally the EF2000iS has a fuel gauge which is very, very handy indicator versus the feeling of driving a car with broken fuel gauge and guessing. The unit has practical design in light weight and convenience in easy lifting and moving/ reposition around due to sudden change of wind blowing exhaust fume, for transporting purposes or for any reason. During the time of writing this we are currently in tropical storm Champi condition# I and without island power. But how convenient to have the gem EF2000iS dependable pure sinewave electricity with lights, fan and electronics devices and et cetera turned on without the inconvenience and boring of darkness. If you are planning on purchasing one, I promise you will absolutely not regret the quality make, dependency and how easy to operate and maintain the unit. Thank you and I hope this help.Read full review

Very quiet, talked to some tent campers next to us and they could barely hear it. Fuel shutoff is nice feature and allows you to run it dry for storage. 12v DC cables included for direct hookup to charge a battery. Optional parallel cable with standard 30amp RV outlet available to connect a 2nd generators and double your output for A/C or other higher draw applications. I bought 2 gens and the cable but have not had a chance to test the parallel connection yet. Buy a funnel as the oil is impossible to fill without one and make sure you have the gas cap vent open when running (kept forgetting that). Started first pull out of the box (after adding oil of course). excellent generator.

Efficient, easy and reliable. I use it onboard and camping. I had a Honda and I think I like the features like the fuel gauge and side mounted controls better. I happy with my choice,

Excellent Product ! I have a Transfer Switch at my home and this Yamaha Generator Inverter turns on all my Led lights, my Refrigerator, several fans, my T.V. and my Computer at the same time with no Problem during the crisis brought about by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. The crisis still persists thus I have my Yamaha ready to go when my home electrical supply is interrupted. I recommend this Generator with my blind eyes... !!

I just purchased a Yamaha EF2000iSV2 for use with my trailer. I have a 5000BTU airconditioner and microwave that can't be driven off the battery. I borrowed a friends Honda EU2000i generator to test. It can drive the airconditioner or the microwave. But not both at the same time. The ECO mode does not work driving these devices. I filled the gas tank and ran the airconditioner at full with the fan at high. I also ran the refrigerator and lights. The Honda ran 5.5 hours on a full tank. I liked the idea that the Yamaha has a separate full shut-off so you can run the gas out of the carb. I ran the same test that I did with the Honda. On a full tank the Yamaha ran 7.5 hours! (2 hours longer than the Honda). The ECO model on the Yamaha does not drive the airconditioner. I haven't had a chance yet to see if the generator will drive both devices at the same time. It would be nice if the generator came with an oil fill funnel. The Yamaha seemed a little louder at full load than the Honda, but I don't have a sound meter. So things are good so far... we'll see how it works over time.Read full review
