The first time I heard Yael Naim was on the Mac commercial for the new, super slim Macbook Air or whatever it's called. I was in my office at the time and did an immediate search to find out the name of the artist. I found her and found that her album was only available as an import on my usual spot for scoring new music. Then, being the genious that I am, I decided to look on iTunes and there she was! I am into folk rock and bluesy female vocalist spanning from Ani DiFranco to Lizz Wright, but Yael is a new sound. Her single "New Soul" is catchy and very well orchestrated with an addictive hook and hyponotizing vocals. The rest of the album is filled with heavy emotion in both content and form. Yael is French-Israeli and her music reflect that with a mix of Hebrew and French. Admittedly, I do not understand most of what she is singing about, but the raw emotion in her voice makes me want to learn. Next to 'New Soul' 'Levetar' is my favorite track. The music combined with the vocals is almost haunting as it courses through the sound system in my car. The song is performed entirely in Hebrew, but it could easily be any English song about love and loss. Yael Naim's album is an adventure. For someone who does not mind not knowing her many languages I love and appreciate her music as an art form. I would recommend it if you appreciate gut wrenching emotion even if it isn't in your native language. Oh yeah, she also does a skillful cover of Britney Spears' "Toxic."Read full review

If you're into International music, this is great! If you expect all the songs/lyrics to be in English, don't buy it. Instead, take your money and spend it on some trips out of the US ;-) A strange, but wonderful, blend of English (with a bit of French) and Hebrew. Wonderful voice and very nice songs.
Listening to these little songs open your imagination to a brighter light, even the hebrew tracks will touch your sensibility. Yael expressive voice and simple yet sophisticated musical arrangementes are fluid poetry. Open your ears and listen!
