I bought this as a soldering exercise for my son. This kit gives some nice soldering experience, not too difficult, and you end up with a useful item as well. One issue we ran into: the '222' capacitor was more like a '225' - 2.2uF, instead of 2.2nF. this cause the wrong frequency to be generated for that setting. Replacing this with a capacitor with the right value solved the problem.

The unit I received had several areas of solder mask scraped off and two lifted solder pads due to the loose packaging and friction during shipping. The pins on the IC and socket were terribly bent and almost not salvageable. 3 of the 5 resistors were well outside of the 1% tolerance and the caps were all over the place. The 2206 IC seems to be DOA for me -- even if I breadboard the datasheet schematic, it's dead. The instructions are barely recognizable as English, but it's not exactly a difficult project, so you should be OK ... as long as you trace the PCB to confirm the polarity of the electro. caps against the schematic (the dark half of the circle on the board is the negative side ... I know that's convention, but I don't trust the people that wrote this "manual", which doesn't try to make it clear in any way). If you order, hopefully you have better luck with the condition of the components. It's a decent case, BTW. [For context, I have been designing and building audio circuits for years on perf, vero, and PCBs. This is not a case of "pilot error." I only ordered this kit because of the small form factor -- it was cheaper than designing and ordering my own PCB and laser cutting my own case. But that's exactly what I'll do anyway, now.]Read full review

Overall, this is a fairly good kit. Waveforms are visually solid, excepts at high voltage settings. Square wave amplitude is not variable, like the sine and triangle waveforms. Potentiometer is reversed, for amplitude setting, with CCW increasing amplitude. Was able to achieve 230kHz for max frequency. Insufficient hardware to properly secure PCB to acrylic case, but easy to retrofit with some extra nuts and bushings. Bottom plate was designed to act as the securing "nut" for certain screws, and the screw are not self-tapping (machine type). Overall, I'm glad to have this as a portable unit to put in my traveling toolbox. Could probably do better, but for now, it will do nicely.

Easy to assemble, work well. Case is a little bit offset so you may need to grind the pot hole a little bit to make them fit. Pot are not of the best quality but all right for the price. Perfect for beginner.

This generator work as expected, but I am not confident in jumper settings, I'll rather see a some kind of more reliable switch there. Although, yes, it quite cheap, and the board quality seems to be high.
