This book is written in an easy-to-read style that gets you into the writer's experience very effectively. I enjoyed reading about his adventures as well as the thoughts goind through his mind in the process. Since I was preparing to visit Australia and NZ and do some fishing, it was particularly interesting and useful in my preparations. Even though I went in early spring and there were no problems with all the snakes in Australia, it was interesting to note that this is a concern for fishermen there. When I did go, I asked my guide about the issue and he said it was blown out of proportion since most of their snakes (the poisonous ones) had to chew on you vs. the fangs that inject poison with the N.American pit vipers. None-the-less I was a bit cautious and did step right over one red-bellied black snake (yes-poisonous) without incident. It was a cool day and the snakes a bit sluggish yet. I don't recommend fishing the first week or two of October unless you are in an area (of Australia) where you can fish the spawning run streams. It was great fun. The fishing in NZ in early October is really iffy with weather. I had to fish a lake the first day but had fabulous weather the next 2 days...unfortunately, the rivers were still running high and a bit cloudy so better to go later. Get the book for sure if you are planning a trip down under. It is great entertainment even if you don't go.Read full review
