I have never been as moved about a story as I was with this story! From the begin to the credits, we were frozen in our seats. We had to keep putting it on hold to dry our tears. The acting was superb, the directing was superb, the camera work was so awesome that you felt like you were on the field with the players. Every individual involved in this movie deserves special recognition for living the part of this historic event. I can't say enough and I intend to share this experience with everyone I know. I am going to encourage my Pastor to have a movie night for our church members. I know that it will change there lives like it has changed my husband's and my life. Five stars and Excellent do not come close to how this movie will affect you when you see it.

I can personally testify to the truth of this move because I was a witness to some of the events portrayed in the film. I actually believe the scenes from the Dallas Cotton Bowl Explo '72 event were clips filmed in 1972. I was at that week-long event and so were a number of college friends of mine. It was very moving to see the effect on the pastor that went on shortly afterward to eventually change the atmosphere first in a high school undergoing de-segregation and then the city of Birmingham itself. I can hardly believe that a high school football game could have attracted so many tens of thousands of people! I'm planning on sharing this movie with at least 4 or 5 friends that were at Explo '72 with me.

The title of this review is one of the points the Sean Astin character makes when unexplainable and amazing things happen, i.e., "when God shows up". This film navigates racism in the 60's South, a football team, and the Christian message of reconciliation without being preachy. If you want to watch a film that tells a powerful story (and it's true), with good acting as well as being entertaining, I would highly recommend you check out this film. It doesn't back away from the ugliness of those days, and how things changed for the actual people that this film is based on. A+

This is a great film made all the better because it is true. It is a compelling story about the courage of a team and in particularly a single man to stand against racism and hatred at a pivotal time when these things were tearing a school, community and the nation apart. This was made possible because of the transformation of these individuals and the football team(s) by bigger than themselves; the love of Jesus Christ. The movie is well acted and very compelling, and present the true results of a sincere faith in Jesus.

Why do we forget or stop doing the basic principles that, hopefully, we were taught in kindergarten? What would happen if you simply said "no" to hate, anger, bigotry, etc and "yes" to love, acceptance, courage, conviction, etc? What if every person around the globe, made the same choice at the same time, with the conviction to remain true to that promise, even when faced & hurt by the people who wouldn't make the vow or couldn't keep it, so they gave up all together? Imagine the impact on family, friends, cities, states, countries, the world... imagine the effect on divorce, crime, addiction, war, even just sibling squables... It sounds simple because it is. But simple does not mean easy. Just simple...and worth it. You will be consumed with this concept, & it starting with you, when you finish watchimg Woodlawn... a true story btw...and watch the extras...you wont be sorry!Read full review
