Any book by Kelley Armstrong is worth reading, but this entry comes off as a weak link in the Otherworld series. For the first time, the main heroine, Robyn, is a non-magical human. This could have worked --- if Robyn were strong, brave, intelligent, or otherwise admirable. Instead, she consistently does exactly the wrong thing (when you find a dead body, NEVER pick up the murder weapon!) and spends most of the book running away from not only the murderer, but from her friends and others who could help her. As if to compensate for Robyn's weakness, there is a huge cast of secondary characters, many of whom appear for the first time in the series. It's confusing, especially with all the misunderstandings and double-crosses. The female villain is far more interesting than Robyn, and the reader can almost work up some sympathy for her --- until she sexually exploits minors in order to...survive? No, to get a job with a Cabal that would have gladly hired her even without the added incentive of her pregnancy. The sex-with-minors details are sordid, and the motive for the multiple murders is flimsy. We are left to conclude that the villain is simply insane --- which could certainly be true in real life. However, a well-crafted fictional mystery seems to beg for a tidier wrap-up.Read full review
Just as good as the previous books in the series. Eagerly waiting for more. kelley Armstrong is consistant in her writing style and keeps the reader interested.
