By its very nature, this box set will appeal most to Nirvana superfans, but it's a good retrospective of their musical output from beginning to end. The box set is a good mix of studio tracks, demos, acoustic rough sketches, and some live songs. One nice addition is three Leadbelly cover songs recorded by members of both Nirvana and Screaming Trees as the Jury (although credited here to Nirvana). These are a fun, nearly-rockabilly take on blues from a band not normally associated with that genre. The booklet is informative as well, although it could have provided just a bit more info in places, but most of that info can be found online. Overall a good package when the studio albums just aren't enough Nirvana for you.

What I like most about this product is the music on the compact discs. This is not to underscore the quality of the perfect roundness of the disc itself, the printing on said disc, the contents of the digital video disc, much less the liner notes/ photos book. The packaging was also quite lovely. If you like either rock and/ or roll and appreciated the humor of seasons 1-8 of the Simpsons, you too might consider purchasing this boxed set. Conversely, if seasons 9- present were more to your liking, you might consider thrashing about to studio albums of this group. That said, I must admit to watching several of the early seasons of Star Trek Next Generation around the same period that many of the band's studio albums were being released, although I was never upset when I had to miss an episode. I won't be going to the latest Star Trek movie. Not that I don't like movies. I'm looking very forward, in fact, to seeing the new Mike Tyson documentary. Also, please don't get on my case about how I should have just bought this boxed set digitally and saved a tree. I will ride my bicycle to the movies. Recommended.Read full review
The presentation of the box is very appealing, not to mention the name, Lights Out. I thought it would be more entertaining and factual into the bands life and that of its lead singer Kurt Cobain. Although I love Nirvana I found it very hard to listen and/or watch each disc in its entirety. It was like watching a person with hand tremors video tape the band in their early years and the CD's were very raw. I'm not saying I was mislead into believing it was something different. I guess I just got my hopes up for something better. I wanted a neatly presented send off for Kurt. Stupid huh? Neat was never a word used to describe Nirvana, yet somehow I wanted that. If you don't mind the way it's presented and you will take your Nirvana in its rawest form than this box set is for you.Read full review
I've been a Nirvana fan since Smells Like Teen Spirit blew Nirvana into the stratosphere in 1991. I was 12 years old then and I've been obsessed ever since. If you truly know and love this band, then this purchase is a no brainer.

Pretty good box set here!comes with 2 discs and a dvd.this features some old b-sides and older nirvana songs as well as some live versions of songs trendy people and posers would recognize too!]If your already a huge nirvana fan then you will enjoy this set alot.if your new to nirvana then you might not appreciate the rawness of this box set.the dvd included is a little rough quality since it's all recorded on home video but i still like it.i'm really fascinated with kurts body language and his persona which you will see and hear alot of in these long and rare hardly edited clips of this sliver box set.if you buy this,i hope you buy it used so Cortney "love" doesn't get her claws in more of nirvana's money.my personal opinion on value of this set is 15 to 20 dollars...Read full review
