this is a awsomely fun and sometimes altogether frightful look at the life and times of the missunderstood, mistreated an incredibly awkward green skined wicked witch of the west, her sister (witch of the east), her father, mother, nanny and her friends including bog and a boarding school friend named sait Galenda (northern witch). this story is a biography of sorts for a fictional caracter and takes you on a jurney from her munchkinland childhood, too boarding school, to the emerald city, to the vinkus and finally to her death by the hand of the evil wizard of Oz with the help of the dim wited dorthey Gail and her lion, tin man and scarcrow friends!!! You'll soon find out that wicked is just a state of mind and evil is in the eye of the beholder. This book reminds us of the importance of never beleaving untile you've heard both sides of testory and judged for yourself!!!!Read full review
This book was great! I like listening to books on tape while I run or do household chores. CD's skip when I run and it is just an added step to put it on my MP3 for a one time listen. Anyway, I listened to all 14 cassettes in about a week. It kept me wanting more. I am on line now to order more books by Gregory Maguire. Keep in mind this is a book for adults, even if it is about the land of Oz.
I listened to this before I saw the Musical. I had a hard time getting through the unabridged version but the basis was great so I made it...the story itself is wonderful, just the abridged version would probably be much more enjoyable. I bought this again for a friend who's seen the musical multiple times but never read the book.......she was shocked at the differences in the second half but still found it slow but worth the listen.
Fantastic audio book on the wicked witch of the West from the wizard of Oz. Really enjoyed it a lot

Wicked the book is nothing like the play. I found it very tedious listening...an abridged version would have been a better choice. It was very detailed and often to wordy. It definitely put a new twist on the Wizard of Oz story. My husband really like it, but I did not.
