The latch handle for my older GE dishwasher broke and had to be replaced. It was no longer possible to unlatch and open the door, but I was able to get the door unlatched and open by careful use of a small screw driver. The door has to be open in order to be able to replace the latch. This dishwasher was made by Whirpool. It was neccessary to replace replace the entire latching mechanism. It is necessary to remove the front of the door to replace the mechanism. My latch and washer is white, but white was not available so I had to get black. Such a small portion of the latch handle is visable, however, it is hardly visable. This is a simple repair for any competent DIYer.

This is the 3rd time I’ve replaced this same part. Although it’s inexpensive and easy to replace (maybe 15 minutes total) the plastic handle breaks in the same place every 5 years like clockwork, so a redesign would make a world of difference.

This OEM Dishwasher door latch was a direct bolt on replacement for my stainless steel Maytag dishwasher. Easy to install. It takes maybe 30 minutes to remove the broken latch and replace it with this one. Highly recommend this product.

This part fixed my dishwasher. The mounting points were broken so I had to form new ones using some epoxy putty. Once the mounting points were reformed, the latch installed easily. Turn off the power to the dishwasher before performing this repair.
