Last night, my daughter's fifth grade class performed most of the monologues from Good Masters! Sweet Ladies! and all I can say is WOW! These short monologues allow the kids to inhabit a character, and to imagine life from that person's point of view. History comes alive. The author has woven together the characters so that, while each monologue stands alone, the relationships emerge among the residents of a medieval village. If you are a teacher, GRAB THIS for a unique way to emerge your students in history. If you are a parent, and you like your child to read something other that the endless "series" books that have merchandise tie-ins, Good Masters! Sweet Ladies! is the ticket. Great writing, and lots of historical information in the footnotes--yes, actual interesting footnotes, chock full of facts, as my 10 year old explained to me some realities of life in the middle ages. BRAVO! a book that stands alone, and my kids loved it.Read full review
