This book bursts with exactly what it says on the cover. Although perhaps justly biased towards a feministic view of women drummers. You should never the less be stunned, as I was, by the amount of research evidence both factual and pictorial that went into compiling this book. Layne Redmond's obvious passion for drumming is a tribute to her, and she has probably trodden where many men would fear to tread. There is so much within these pages. Although based very much in history, towards the end it offers up to date perspectives and applies lessons learnt from the past to todays culture. Rock on.
I'm excited to start reading this book, which was recommended by our frame drumming teacher. The book is in great shape!

Layne Redmond is one of the best drummers ever! It was a real inspiration to read the history of drumming as told by a master of the music. The book contains photographs of antiquities, temples, wall paintings, vases and reliefs showing women drumming during their sacred rituals. Also mentioned is the wonderful, Goddess energy, drumming group called the "Mob of Angels".
