This is great entertainment if you like Carmen Miranda and lightweight screwball comedy romance. John Payne, one of the most attractive yet underrated leading men in Hollywood, is engaged to his boss's daughter. Dad owns a cruise ship line. Shortly before the wedding, a cruise ship runs aground near Havana and is unable to dock there as planned. Dad sends Payne to handle the matter, but one of the passengers, Nan (Alice Faye) won't accept a cash payoff. She insists on a Cuban vacation or she will sue the cruise line. Payne has to stay in Havana and show Nan a good time, so he misses his own wedding and winds up pursued by three women: his fiancee, Nan, and nightclub singer Rosita (Carmen Miranda). For viewers who might be shocked when Payne bluntly asks Nan if she wants him to make love to her, this phrase did not mean the same thing in 1941 that it does today! It meant kissing, hand-holding, and sweet-talking, nothing further.Read full review

I love this film and was glad to get it on DVD. There are two excellently matched and interwining couples in this. The leads are the lovely Alice Faye and the handsome John Payne with comic support provided by the unique Carmen Miranda with her fractured English and a young Cesar Romero. Mention must go to Leonid Kinskey as well who writes down a telegram dictated by John Payne ("Human element hard at work") as "Humane elephant hardly works"!
Week-end in Havana is a light story, but professionaly directed. The technical quality of the film is surprisingly good. The great actors and the perfectly interpreted latin music give value to the film. The incomparable, dinamic personality of Carmen Miranda is fantastic. She is an extremely talented singer and dancer. Miss Miranda has got a bombastic driving force. Today's so called superstars do not come even close to her.
The dvd is in color and is high quality. Carmen Miranda is always a lot of fun. Great music, comedy, song and dance. Simple story line, it has a happy ending, not like the Gang's All Here that doesn't really have one. Great movie to get to know Alice Faye, Carmen Miranda, and Cesar Romero.
