We have an original LP of The Ray Conniff Singers from the late 1950s, well used all these years. So I thought I would update to a new CD and it has really brought back fond memories in sharp clear tone and sound. Our family also has the sing along with Mitch Miller and Gang, these two artist are the most played during the whole holiday season!! Our daughter and grand children still love the great songs and the arrangements that these to artist used!! Fantastic music for the soul at Christmas Time!!
The Ray Coniff Singers (RCS), have always had a steady sound about them. Some would think it is a cheesy Casio keyboard and a group of singers, but remember no Casio keyboards in the 60's. This Christmas CD is a reminder of what the late 50's and 60's were all about gathering around the Christmas tree to open gifts. You hear the familiar carols that are arranged with vocally tight harmonies that will allow for years of enjoyment. The vocal quality on all of the tunes are excellent, the arrangements are fun and light hearted. My favorite song is RING CHRISTMAS BELLS, this is actually an arrangement of CAROL OF THE BELLS, and man, IT IS AWESOME. I first heard this song when I was 12, which would have been about 1984. I would sit at the radio just waiting for it to come on again so I could record it. It did, and I STILL have the tape that I recorded it on. However, as a music teacher, I wanted to find out who sung it. I had no idea. But after hearing SEVERAL RCS songs, I started putting it all together. Their sound even today, is still recognizable and loved by millions. That is how I figured it out who sung it and then I found the CD on Ebay, I am extremely happy. My 4 year old son and I listened to it and he fell in love with THE 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS. He really enjoys counting and their arrangement of it with bagpipes, marching percussion, and alternating between the guy and gal singers is absolutely wonderful. Anywho, I know this is long and a lot to read, but I cannot express enough how GREAT of a Christmas CD this is. I would highly recommend purchasing it and enjoying it for years. While growing up. this was one of my parents Favorite Christmas choices to listen to during the Holiday Season. I have very fond memories of decorating the tree & the house while hearing cheery Ray Conniff & The Ray Conniff Singers. This is the go to cd to recapture & remember those family moments with all those wonderful songs from years past. I highly recommend this cd, as it will bring years of enjoyment to your families seasonal gatherings as well, Enjoy!!
And they are very good at doing just that! Christmas would not be Christmas without this added to my music collection. This has brought back so many memories of growing up and hearing these on almost every radio station at the time. A real breath of fresh air when you want to get away from all of the other over produced CD's that are popular today. I am not saying I don't appreciate those too, but "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" to me is what the holiday season is all about. The arrangements are so upbeat and so uplifting. Pair that with the amazing vocal harmonies and you have nothing but a winning combination here! I am so glad I found this. If you are into the more traditional Christmas CD's you might just want to give this one a try. Heck you might even want to pull this one out for some of the youngsters to show them what you listened to and appreciated in your younger daysRead full review
