The Check Engine Light came on my Saturn ION. I scanned the car and found a strange Evap leak code. I also found that after gas fill-ups, that the ION would want to almost die after start-up. I checked out the online forums and everything pointed to purge solenoid. I thought I would go the cheap route and buy an aftermarket solenoid at the local parts store. That didn't fix it. I went on to replace the evap canister, also. That didn't fix it either. I still had the trouble code and the dying starts after fill-ups. I decided to inspect the aftermarket solenoid and found out it wasn't holding a vacuum. So I found an AC Delco solenoid on eBay for about the same price as an aftermarket one. It shipped fast and fixed the problem. No more dreaded Check Engine Light.

I had a P0449 EVAP code on my 2007 Monte Carlo SS. I replaced this purge valve first but still had the code. It was very easy to change though. Simply remove your plastic engine cover and it's right there in the middle of the intake. Unhook the electrical plug and two hoses, remove from bracket and install the new one in reverse order. I ended up replacing the vent solenoid back beside the gas tank also to get rid of the code.
