I have 3 of these scanners currently and have had 4 more which I have sold to folks who were impressed with them. For a basic area where you don't need trunking capabilities and where there are only a dozen or so frequencies you want to monitor, this scanner is so simple to program and use. I keep one in my car, one on my computer desk and one as a standby. Great reception and simple features and great battery life.

I was disappointed upon receiving the scanner after I got it programmed and working to find that it does not operate without being plugged in to an outlet. I tried different batteries and switching power sources but to no avail. I specifically bought a portable scanner for the reason that it is supposed to be PORTABLE!

For my area, this little handheld is perfect. No digital reception of course but we don't have that here. If you live in an area that still uses analog systems, you can't bet it. I've owned about 6 or 8 and still have 3. I sold the others over the years to fellow scanner enthusiasts. Simple to program and use even for a youngster! Great battery life as well. As I said, for a basic scanner, the value and quality is great!

I live in Tornado Alley and a radio scanner is a must have for residents of this region in the case of a Tornado warning. During a Tornado Warning in the area, a power outage is typical. The local Police Departments dispatch and repeater are backed up by a generator thus, a radio scanner can hear the weather reports on the preprogrammed weather channels and listen to the local Police Department (if the Department is using an analog system) for the exact location of a Tornado. They user can also listen to storm spotters that transmit on frequencies that the Uniden BC60XLT-1 receives. If you live in a rural area, an outdoor quarter wave antenna with the proper cable attached to the scanner would enable the user to receive their local Sheriff's Department and the N.O.A.A. preprogrammed weather channels. A very useful device indeed!Read full review

It would be better if it had some reception. The only thing it gets is the weather
