The Meam Loez is a series of books on the Hebrew Tanach (Bible) originally written in Judeo Espanol aka Ladino. It was in the past generation translated into English, mostly by Rabbi Aryeh Kaplan of Blessed memory. In these volumes, the author collected the best of the Jewish Oral received traditions spanning a period of over 3500 years in explaining sometimes ununderstanable sections of the Hebrew Scriptures. Using the Talmud and Midrashim, the author collected a coherent and learned book, but so simple, that the common man and woman was able to read it and follow the various laws which were pertinent for the Jew on a daily and Holiday basis. This english translation of the Ladino is faithful AND easily understood. Though Rabbi Kaplan was a Physicist, he translated everything into plain english, something which I enjoyed growing up and reading this volume and just waiting for the next volume to come out! If you want to know more about Jewish laws, traditions, and fill in the blank spaces of your knowledge of Biblical personalities, I would highly recommend this book for it's massive covering of material, plain english and well organized material. If you know the stuff here, you will gain much in becoming a learned student of the Hebrew Bible. Get the entire set! 5 STARS!Read full review
