10 hours long. It's a long book and even without reading the book the movie(s) is easy to follow.

Based on the book, this is easily the best, most entertaining and most comprehensive telling of the trials and tribulations of Japanese sword saint, Miyamoto Musashi.

I like this version better than the Toshiro Mifune one

I have Hiroshi Inagaki's version of Musashi starring Toshiro Mifune. I had seen two of Tomu Uchida's Musashi starring Kin'noske Nakamura in the early 60's. Now that I've seen both in toto, my personal opinion is that Uchida and Nakamura tell Eiji Yoshikawa's story of Musashi better than Inagaki/Mifune. Uchida (570 minutes) has a big advantage over Inagaki (312 minutes) in time to develop and tell the story. Ultimately it comes down to comparing the acting of Mifune and Nakamura. Limiting the comparisons to similar video scenes of the story, I feel that Nakamura does a better job of emoting the turmoil within oneself when faced with choices of filial piety, swordsmanship, victory, fame, and love.
