I ENJOYED THE BOOK FOR THE MOST PART. ACCORDING TO THE AUTHOR, THE WAY TO THE BEING THE BEST DUMPSTER DIVER IS EMBELLISHMENT AND STRETCHING THE TRUTH ABOUT CERTAIN THINGS. I, PERSONALLY, CANNOT DO THIS BUT I DID LIKE THE PARTS ABOUT 'FOUND' MATERIALS AND SUCH. I REALLY DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY SOCIETY PUTS SUCH A STIGMA ON USED ITEMS---IT'S LIKE IF IT ISN'T NEW THEN IT'S NO GOOD. OBVIOUSLY THESE FOLKS HAVE NEVER HAD TO GO THRU A SEVERE DEPRESSION OR RECESSION WHERE EVERYTHING COUNTED FOR SOMETHING! THERE ARE SOME GOOD IDEAS PRESENTED FOR YOU TO PERUSE.
Best books on Thrift and Creativity to keep you going! Frugal doesn't mean miserly and the end result of being frugal and saving is having enough when you need it for other things. A fan of the author's work for years!

I really liked this book for it's back to basics fundamentals. It's goal is obviously to teach others how to lower their costs. But, the part I really liked is how it showed you that simplifying your life and making some very common sense decisions does not mean you have to suffer a life of have nots. Ms. Dacyczyn shows us how her family and others like her's have trived with this lifestyle. Many of the ideas are extremely eco-friendly as well. Now, I will admit, there were a few items in there that I just KNEW I would draw the line at! And yes, some were a bit outdated. But, as I said, if you care to pick and choose which ideas will work for you, then it's a great book!
The older I become the more "old ways" seem to be the best. Early in my married life I practiced many financial and ecological techniques which allowed us to live a "less is more" lifestyle. We are looking towards retirement, and a review of the practices which we could put in place to allow us to maximize our resources seemed like a great idea. Thank you Ebay for providing a way to rediscover the joys of recycling even the books we read. The Tightwad Gazette is a valuable resource which I was able to acquire at a "frugal" price. I recommend this site to all.
