This was one of my favorite movies and way head of its time when it was made. Watching it again showed me how much the newer movie making methods can improve the entertainment and viewing level of the story. It also reminded me a little of how people viewed life back then which made the story look a bit cheesy. I also was reminded that one of the biggest social statements of its time was when the general kissed his new girl friend, this interracial interaction in a movie was unheard of back then. When buying this movie it was a little confusing about which of the products to get because of the different covers. I now know that the old more white cover DVDs are regular DVDs and the yellow, orange, red colored art on the cover of the DVD are either Blue ray, HD DVDs or a format combo production of the movie. I personally would buy the regular DVD since I see no advantage or improvement that the better quality format would add to this older production.Read full review
I enjoy these movies. Course Heston does his part very well There is a bit of nudity incase kids be watching. Hate doing spoilers, so I won't say much. I will say it's age shows very well (the costumes, the music, the mannerisms) and the ending like the 1st movie, is just like...really??... Will smiths I am legend is of course the best yet of the series. Each version has their own twist of the book. If it intrigues you and you enjoy (corny) classics as I do, you may enjoy this aswell

If you like classics, then you will like this one. It was one of the fore runers to the new "I am legend" with Will Smith. The story is neat considering the period in which it was made. The Omega man with Charlton Heston takes place in a post bio destroyed L.A. and I am legend takes place in New York. Both have the same story lines with a few twists and turns along the way. The Omega man is interesting because it was filmed in 1971, without all the c g special effects we have today. Also the cold war between the us and ussr was still going on. Although the movie seems kind of campy at times due to the time period, it is a good movie. You also have Charlton Heston of Planet of the Apes, Moses, and ben-hur fame as the main character. This movie is worth seeing. It tells a story with bio-warefare, mass destruction, and the end of civilization with flare. It is enjoyable viewing. "The Omega Man" is worth the purchase price. And if you like this one then you will also enjoy "I Am Legend"Read full review
DVD came within time frame promised. However, this is not 1 of Mr Heston's best films . Very mediocre, in fact. He gives a wooden performance, overacting in a lot of scenes. Rosalind cash & Anthony Zerbe do fine work with their characters. I enjoyed the last man on earth w/Vincent price a whole lot better.

The story is similar to I am Legend and is apparently from the same book by that title. The movie is about an outbreak of a virus that turns people into zombie type creatures. Charlton Heston is the main character, and he goes about helping this clan found on the outskirts of the city who have been infected, but not yet showing symptoms of the changeover. There is some success with his experiments, and he is typified as a "Christ-like" savior, or so it seems, by the end of the movie. His blood heals and saves them from the zombie death. Don't want to spoil the ending, but that reference seems obvious to me and others who watched it with me by the end of the movie. This may or may not have been the intention of the author, since I have not read the book, I can not make that determination. Would make for an interesting book discussion though.Read full review
