This is a definite "must have" in your cookbook library....loaded with easy to read information and easy to make recipes! We have 5 of our children living out of state and they all love to cook. Sometimes I will send one a cookbook via Ebay or Half.com, out of love, for no other reason. This is one of my favorite ones, I have sent! It has 825 pages, 2 inches thick and weighs alone about 3lbs 12ozs! A great book to read or cook from, many times there are 3 recipes on one page as well as many well drawn pictures. We love the simplicity of the recipes as well as the many sections, like one called HOMEMADE PASTA. Or how about making CHOCOLATE CUPS, STRAWBERRY-WAFFLE CHANTILLY OR ALMOND-CORDIAL PARFAITS, instructions all on the same page, as well as the calorie count, etc. I wish this book had been around when I got married 50 years ago, as well as Ebay where you can get it at such a reasonable price! Buy one even if it is without the dust jacket, as it is a beautiful red book with gold lettering! My belief is even if you find one good recipe in a book, it is worth the price...........with this one I have found many excellent recipes!!Read full review
I bought this cookbook for myself in 1987. Absolutely loved it. Bought another for my sister when she got married 1989, she loves it as well. My other sister(15 years younger) just got married, and she cannot cook at all, so.....I bought it for her, 2006. She actually can't wait to start using it. She said it looks very user friendly. Recipes are clear and concise, they leave no room for error, has meals and recipes that are great for new cooks as well as the experienced. Meats are broken down into sections(Beef, Pork-Smoked,fresh, poultry- chicken, turkey, etc) with charts that include various cuts, cooking times and temperatures for each, at the beginning of each section. This book is a must have for any kitchen.
We have owned this same book since it was first published and it is the most used book in our home next to the Bible. It has LOTS of extras from substitutions and different measurements to infromation about different cuts of meat. There are LOTS of great recipes and an easy to use Index at the end to find just the right recipe. We bought two more of these this year to give as gifts to our daughters. In 25 years of marriage we have bought many other cookbooks but this one is the one we use to the most. Our copy is very worn and stained from all the use it has had in these 25 years. This book would make a great gift for both those who enjoy and excel at cooking as well as those who don't like to cook and need some instruction.
My good housekeeping cookbook has been used so much over the years that it is starting to come apart, so I needed another one. I found one on ebay, it was in good shape and is just what I needed.
