I purchased this book on the strength of Michael Wallis' name and because I have a number of his books related to traveling on Route 66, particularly his Mother Road volume. We are making the Lincoln Highway trip in 2010 from Northwest Indiana to Salt Lake City, and I wanted a definitive guide. Wallis does an excellent job of providing direction and sights on the road, and the experience is that much better with his help. Of particular help is the breakdown by state, of the various routes each road followed, including alternates, as in Northern Indiana, plus it makes it easy to travel in either direction, east to west or west to east. While I have picked up books by other authors, Wallis is always the standout for clarity, accuracy and historical value. I highly recommend this book, whether you are planning to make all, or part, of the journey, or are simply looking for an enjoyable read.Read full review
this is a book of history about a road I knew very little about, usually studied route 66. Contnets of book are divided by states the highway goes through. I plan to look for some of the locations mentioned in the book on my next rv trip.

It has more about the structures seen along the highway than the scenery and the history, but it is helpful to learn about the structure aspect of the Lincoln highway.

Purchase arrived promptly, securely packaged, and condition was better than advertised. It is a gift for my grandson and he is thrilled. The book is a great resource for the history of this iconic roadway. Plenty of pictures, excellent writing, and covers state by state the route and sights along the way.
