A Russian Mafia head hires a KILLER to cause a big and blood "statement" in revenge for the death of his brother a low life drug czar we see killed in the opening scene very noteworthy acting by by Diana Vendora as "Valentina" the Russian policewoman who kills him. Toss in excellent Sidney Poitier as the FBI head man.....he is great~ ....now..The hunt is on for the Jackal the faceless nameless HITMAN hired. Clues he was scene by the mysterious Irish Declan (Gere) who is released from prison ONLY to help find the Jackal who he has seen in his past life as a IRA terrorist. We see know from the start the killer Jackal is really Bruce Willis but he has so many names and IDs he is the Jackal for most of the movie~ he orders a gatling gun and has many layers of IDS slid into place but we do not see how he will gather all this along the way they trail the Jackal to a regatta where he is able to get the gun across to the USA after having cleverly left bodies every where in Canada including the underworld hot on his trail to get his gun. STill believing the target is the highly placed FBI figure they track the Jackal to Washington. along the way we see Jackal target Declan old lover but ends up killing Valentina~ great shoot out scene there too. lots of blood gore and shots but then this is a Terrorist and we know he is good at his job. We see double agents and the fun is watching Jackal switch identities like a snake sheds it skin fast and on he goes. excellent acting by Gere and Diane Denova as scared by life and war. in the end we see the KING of all shoot out scenes with the gun and FBI and Declan all looking to trap the Jackal~ Willis is silent but deadly as the "human " killing machine how he plots every detail of his hits. Fascinating to watch and it very fast paced and gory~ Based on the Day of the Jackal the early movie. the FASTEST 2 hours and 5 minutes on film but you may need to watch it twice to get the whole plot. and Bruce you make a great blonde psycho~I give this one a solid 8 out of 10. FAST and FUN action~see also Day of the Jackal. if you found this review helpful please remember to vote~Read full review
I was sure this movie was going to be a disappointment, but after seeing it I have to say I was deeply wrong. Sure, the story has numerous big holes (Gere knows the operating technique of his opponent so well and down to the last detail, you'd think they used to live together from the moment they were born - total exaggeration, another example are the lame effects when he's between two trains), and Gere's dialect is way off (for some reason it didn't bother me at all), but the rest is pure action and entertainment extravaganza. Bruce Willis was a perfect choice for the Jackal and Sidney Poitier was as always amazing and really helped the atmosphere of the movie with his role. The ending was a bit short, but in my opinion necessary, because I knew what was going to happen, so why delay it. Nicely done, and great musicRead full review
I saw this movie on T.V. a long time ago and thought it was pretty good. I am a fan of Bruce Willis and this is one of his more out-of-the-ordinary roles. The acting is fairly good, with lots of action and plenty of surprises. Some parts become slightly unrealistic, but it keeps to realistic ideas. This is a great movie to watch if you're tired of watching James Bond flicks and want something a little out of the ordinary. While i wouldn't call this film ground-breaking or revolutionary or even a "must-see," it's a great addition to any action buff's collection and a "must-have" for fans of Bruce Willis. Don't expect to pay more than $7.00 for a good condition Region 1 release of "The Jackal." P.S. Anyone who finds Jack Black annoying should own this movie. Watch and you'll see why.Read full review
Bruce Willis and Richard Gere are outstanding in their roles. Nothing boring about this movie and will keep you on edge until the end.

AN EXCELLENT MOVIE ALL AROUND. BRUCE WILLIS DELIVERS A GREAT RESERVE PERFORMANCE AS A COLD CALCULATED PROFESSIONAL KILLER. RICHARD GERE AS AN IRISHMAN IN PRISON FOR TERRORIST ACTS, DOES PULL IT OFF. GREAT STORY AND EVEN BONUS GLIMPSE OF EARLY JACK BLACK ALTHOUGH HE DOES NOT STAY AROUND LONG, BUT ITS STILL ENJOYABLE. AN ELDERLEY SIDNEY POITIER KEEPS UP WITH TIME AND PULLS THROUGH A STRONG SUPPORTING ROLE. GREAT CAT AND MOUSE MOVIE THAT WILL KEEP YOU WONDERING UNTIL THE END.4.2/5 STARS --J. POPE--
