As a longtime Motley fan, and having recently read Nikki Sixx's "Diaries", I wanted to find out what the accompanying soundtrack was all about. I was a little skeptical when I heard that he was releasing an album based on the book, but I made the decision to buy after hearing a couple of tracks. Of course "Life is Beautiful" is all over rock radio stations, and it's a solid track, but I needed to hear more if I was going to buy the album. I had the chance to hear "Accidents Can Happen" and "Dead Man's Ballet" and I was hooked. The great thing about this album is that you can listen from track 1 until the end and it tells a story. I have always been a fan of concept albums (see Queensryche's "Operation Mindcrime), but this was different because if you have read "Heroin Diaries", or if you just know the story of Sixx's addiction, you get sucked right in as a listener. But even if you don't have the attention span to listen from front to back (damn MTV generation), most of the tracks stand on their own just fine. "Van Nuys" and "Girl with Golden Eyes" are other good examples. This is simply a really good rock album, and there just have not been many in the last 10-15 years. It is also a chilling tale of a guy who was ripped apart by drug addiction, and somehow survived to tell it through his words and his music.Read full review
This album is very interesting. I tells the story of the struggles and trials Nikki Sixx went through during his heroine addiction and while he was recovering. I really like track 4 and love track 3. It is crazy some of the thoughts he has decided to share with the world. I loved the song Life is Beautiful and I had heard bits and pieces of the other material on the cd. The music it's self...is magnificent. The lyrics are stunning, and the message a little frightening. well worth buying.
The Heroin Diaries soundtrack, by Sixx A.M., Nikki Sixx (bassist and songwriter of Motley Crue)'s side project, is a perfect accompaniment to Nikki Sixx's book "The Heroin Diaries". "The Heroin Diaries" is the diaries of Nikki Sixx, starting Christmas Day 1986, and continuing through Christmas Day 1987 (with additional follow-ups, and updates) during his days as a heroin addict. Haunting and poignant the words of the recovering bassist pierce the psyche, and appeal to the soul. Bringing the mottled life of a using heroin addict to reality, it really opens your eyes to what the rockstar's life entailed. The his and the lows. For any loved one, or former addict, the words spoken in the diaries are all too familiar. Accompanied with the album, it really brings it to life. For those who know what that life is like, or what it's like to watch someone you love go through the motions of trying to kick an addiction, songs, such as "Accidents Can Happen" bring tears to your eyes. The all too familiar feeling of "I'm here because I know you need a friend" and "You know that accidents can happen, and it's okay we all fall of the wagon sometimes" come rushing back as they are sang. Filled with powerful chords to drive hard hitting wake up calls such as "The Girl with Golden Eyes" referring to his love affair with Persian heroin, and "Life Is Beautiful" as well as "Pray for Me", the album carries the metal/rock feel that Nikki Sixx is known for. The album is a must-have for all true rock/metal fans, as is the book.Read full review
This cd has the words that describe drug addiction written by a person that experienced it. If you listen to the words you can better understand what an addict feels and faces. Rich or poor drugs draw no distinction, all are susceptible to their effect. Hoping this cd helps the young of today to make better decisions concerning drugs.
