Amazing true story about a raid behind enemy lives that saved hundreds of prisoners of war from certain extermination at the hands of their Japanese captors. I read the book Ghost Soldiers a year or two before this movie came out. The story can stand on its own; however, Hollywood tried to detract from the story to play up the romantic story between two lead characters and thus jumped around too much and did not tell the story of the raiders and their mission enough.
this movie really is based on world war two in the pacific. prison camps where the prisoners were beaten and treated less than dirt. finally their salvation comes in the form of the USA rangers.all of the prisoners were free except one who died of a tropical disease. he refused a drug that would save him so others could live.look it up THE GREAT RAID read about it than buy the movie ans see what hell was like.
