As a devout Catholic I have seen every religious film I can get my hands on. Some great, some not so great. This film takes the cake as the most accurate, attention-getting-and-keeping, and most inspirational film about Jesus ever made. The title role played by, in my opinion, one of the best actors around Henry Ian Cusick (Desmund on TV's "Lost") plays the role with such vigor and enthusiasm that the viewer might actually think he is Jesus. Along with a strong supporting cast, a great Narrator (Christopher Plummer) and the fact that this film follows the Gospel of John from the Bible line-by-line and word-by-word (Good News Translation) makes it even more accurate. There are times of joy, tears and triumph in this film. Even though it is 3 hours long, it is worth every minute spent watching. It will be a film you will want to view again and again. It is a film that an entire Christian family can view and love together. Although accurate, it doesn't have the brutality of "Passion" but still captures the heart and soul of this Gospel. This is by far, one of my all-time favorite movies that I have recommended to all my friends and family, and so will you.Read full review
Based upon the American Bible Society's "Good News Bible", the "Gospel of John" renders a word-for-word account of the Gospel in a visually compelling and rich manner. Furthermore it weaves the story in such a way as to "help" bind the whole story into proper context and flow. Some of this may be creative license but it does overall help bind the story and ground it in a way that modern viewers can more easily understand. Given the nature of the production as a word-for-word rendering of the Gospel, this DVD is more a Visual Bible than a movie and although does take creative license in the flow and portrayal of characters, it does meet keep to it's purpose as a true rendering of the Gospel of John -- to clearly state that Jesus was God in the flesh and that He and the Father are one. The DVD is sold as a two-disk set with the first disk as the full three-hour version of the Gospel accompanied by an abbreviated two-hour version. I personally find little use of the two-hour version as it edits the Gospel and deletes too much of the Gospel. In my humble opinion it was written to be as it is and not edited for time or content. The whole story is as it should be and can be found on the three-hour disk. Visually compelling and well acted, the Gospel of John is a must have for the Christian study visual library.Read full review
This is a fantastic DVD for anyone who loves the Gospel of John. It is a word-for-word recitation of the Biblical text with excellent actors, scenery, and directing. The Gospel of John is the most important book of the Bible in which the Disciple John relates his experience of who Jesus was, the Christ, the Son of the living God. For any person seeking a solid foundation to their life, this DVD will relate who Jesus is, what His mission in creating the Earth, and on Earth during his Incarnation, and what His role is after His ascension. This is the most important event in history; to understand who He is as related in this DVD is to start an eternal journey transcending all other experiences anyone can have. I highly recommend repeated viewing of this DVD, continual reading and praying over what is related in this Gospel, and above all, applying and living by these teachings in your life.Read full review
There have been many movies written on the greatest story ever told. Yet, in one way or the other they leave out or add to the story based upon the feelings, opinions or religious bent of the writer, producer or director. In this film I would have to say that the story is very well projected and strictly based upon the written gospel of John. I find it very convicting and motivational. In the Gospel of John it seems to me that those who have produced this film had a very good take on the expressions and behavior of every character in the story. The call upon the life of every believer is to be conformed to the image of Jesus. I would say that if one had a desire to be like Jesus that they would find this work would be very inspirational. Many churches give out literature by the thousands of items which promote their take on God. The views which they chose to project often point to a certain system or an organization which support their own doctrine. In my opinion this movie simply promotes the truth of the story and for anyone who is wanting to share the good news of eternal life there is no better tool apart from the expression of one's own life. My family has been very blessed with this film. Thumbs up! Good work and congrats to all involved in making it possible. We are planning to order hundreds of copies in time ahead. The Gospel of John is base on the Holy Bible's book called: The Gospel according to Saint John. This History lesson is NOT told using the Kings James Version in which I Love the King James Version the most and I recommend the King James Version of the Holy Bible than any other version. This History lesson is base on one of the most unique Gospels in the Holy Bible and outside of the Holy Bible. This History lesson shows a Jewish or Judaism prophecy of the Son of Man/Immanuel Messiah coming to past right then and there. The Gospel according to Saint John which this History lesson is base on shows the Love that God/Jesus have for us and that there is ONLY Salvation throught Faith and Repentance in the Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth which is Jehovah Immanuel Messiah the Nazarene a.k.a. Yahweh Yeshua HaMashiach the Son of David. Let us remember this Holy Bible's verse in John 14:6 which says: Jesus saith unto him, I AM the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE; NO man cometh unto the Father, but by Me. The first King James translation is called: The Authorized King James Version 1611 or King James Holy Bible 1611 but I prefer the regular King James Holy Bible.Read full review
