It's fun to watch this movie in light of Evil Dead II, because you can see the different direction Sam Rammi went with subsequent films. This is a much more straight forward horror story, still heavy on the gore and costuming, but lacking the goofy one-liners and bad-ass Ash character. The commentary on the DVD is good if you're interested in that sort of thing, and if for some reason you're looking to make a low budget film of your own they go over set designs, how they were built, and all the other stuff that goes along with movie-making. For the non-film maker the commentary isn't technical, but uses the process as a backdrop to tell funny stories about the making of the movie. The pacing of the movie--as Bruce Campbell brings up--is much slower at times than a more contemporary slasher film but it adds to the ambiance of the movie and builds tension. If you like horror movies, Bruce Campbell, Sam Rammi, Evil Dead II, or Army of Darkness I would definitely check this movie out. Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi in their first major production together. These high school friends put together an enduring cult classic that is still popular today. With over the top humor and classic "Gore" scenes, it remains a strong choice even today. This movie spawned a more expensive remake, The evil dead 2, and it's sequel, Army of Darkness. Bruce Campbell shows some lack of acting experience here, but makes up for it with his trademark animated character, facial expressions, and quirky humour. A definate must own for any horror fan, as this film really shows what an independant group with very little financial backing could do if given the chance. If you're a fan of this genre, it remains at the top of my list with 4 out of 5 stars.
I like the movie The Evil Dead dvd and consider it a classic. This movie was a big influence for a lot of other movies. It has spawned video games and very good sequels as well as a current series on Starz. I got a good deal on the movie.

A cult classic that no horror fanatic should be without, Evil Dead is a toast to horror comedy at its best. My whole family loves it, especially my 7 year old son, whose hero in life is the main character Ash. Played by Bruce Campbell, Ash is hilarious in all his B movie roles and is a very well known Icon among them. I enjoy the quality of the DVD format and extra features that you couldn't get with VHS. Another upside is that because it is a cult classic, it is something to hold onto for future fanatics that I am sure will more than double its sale value over time. And we paid very little for this gem.
This movie is an all-time classic, everybody and their dog love it, and if you love B-Level horror you will too!!! Seriously awesome Low-Budget horror/zombie film. Bruce Campbell is amazing and this film is so cheesy you could put it on a pizza. The Evil Dead trilogy is one of my all-time favorites, and I feel that the Evil Dead series really started up the horror movies that don't take themselves too serious. Evil Dead one is an absolute classic, it's the film that started it all and it's still highly enjoyable every time I watch it. Final verdict: 5/5 Rent or buy?: A must buy for any Low-Budget horror fan. IF YOU FIND THIS REVIEW HELPFUL PLEASE REMEMBER TO VOTE. Thank you.
