I recently bought this CD as a gift. It is my favorite Guy Clark album to date. "Mud" is great, takes me back to when I was a kid. "Arizona Star" reminds me of a girl I used to know. "Soldier's Joy" takes me back to the Civil War, it's lyrics like most of Guy's songs, paint a colorful picture of what it must have been like. "Homeless" and "Off the Map" remind me of some tough times I've had in my own personal life. I used to work at a nursing home, so "Bag of Bones" also hits really close to home. Since the untimely death of the great Townes Van Zandt in 1997, Mr. Clark committed to cover one of his songs on every album he records thereafter; this one being "Rex's Blues", an homage to the former owner of The Old Quarter down in Houston. The final song, "The Dark" paints another picture of nightime in Nowhere, USA. I know I skipped over a few tracks, but as you can see, nearly every song has a special place in my heart. Great music, great stories behind the music
Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: New
Not my favorite from Maestro Clark, but still not bad. Sounds a bit more "produced" than most of his work. Still, if you're a Guy Clark fan ya gotta have it!
