I decided to buy this book because it hit close to home for me. Being a Cancer survivor myself but surviving I understand all the anxiety and emotional toil it had on the entire family. My Cervical Cancer was in the 4th stage when I had it frozen, just after giving birth to our one and only son. We miscarried in 1981 and he was born in 1983 a miracle child indeed. When he entered kindergarten my cancer reoccurred and I ended up with a complete hysterectomy.I thank God each and everyday for the wonderful man he has become. The love and friendship that blossomed from making the healing quilt will warm you through and through.I only wish I'd had that kind of support..But God got my family and I through it..without the support of our inlaws. What a wonderful way of releasing grief through writing.Although it took Kit several years to begin the healing process of losing her daughter what an inspirational story to anyone with cancer this is.Go on the journey of a lifetime with her and her daughter..keep the family in your prayers. A true story with lots of meaning.Read full review
I bought this book because I have read it already and thought it was worth adding to my library. Lauraine Snelling is an incredible author. She is able to capture the whole person in her writing. She describes the physical in such a way that your senses experience the reality of what she knows about. The emotions of her characters are brought out in their joys and struggles as well as their relationships with each other. The spiritual is a vital part of her writings as the characters look to the Lord for strength and praise or in some cases struggle with His call on their lives. I highly recommend her books.
Purchased for my quilting book club. Met all my expectations of the book's title. Our club also does many quilts for Children's Services and The Cancer Center.I liked looking at relationships through the eyes of people who have lost children and then have gotten divorced. I don't know what the actual statistics are but just from people I know it is high in the group when I was at child bearing age. Some of the group also does many things with families that lose babies in early stages of birth or growth. Thanks the book was great PMN
"The Healing Quilt" is about a group of women sewing a quilt to raffle off in order to provide funding for a much needed mammogram machine for the local hospital. This book relates the stories about each of the quilters and the issues in their personal lives as they gather for their quilting bees. It's easy to relate to these quilters lives. The chapters are short making it easier to put the book down when necessary.
I like the author, Lauraine Snelling a lot. I also like quilting so it is a great book for me. I'm on the last couple of chapters, and have found it very good. I will be passing it on to my mother.
